Mr. Delancey is a fancy man who’s married a wealthy older woman, and begins to hate her. His best friend is an artist who falls in love with a young girl and plots to kill his wife so he’ll be free to marry her (Elsie). The wife goes swimming and drowns, but then Delancey and another man (Hugh Acheson) discover his wet bathing suit drying on the line and him painting without his glasses, which Acheson finds on the beach. Delancey’s wife accuses him of having an affair with Elsie, threatens to cut off his allowance. Whitestone, the artist, is taken to jail, and Delancey begins to plot to kill his own wife by running her over. She later dies, but it turns out to have been an accident, which is the twist.
